Are unusual wedding favours appropriate for your big day?

Unusual wedding favors are becoming increasing common and popular, but they are not necessarily right for all weddings. There are many factors to consider when determining if so-called unusual wedding favous are appropriate, such as:

  • Consider the couple – Some people are quirky. They know it, they love it, they wouldn’t have it any other way. If a pair of such people getting married is what the big day is all about, then by all means consider something quirky but heed the next rule well…
  • Don’t be quirky just to be quirky – A wedding is a serious event and is not the time to be quirky for the purposes of being quirky. Don’t pick something unusual simply to be different or to stand out as you may find that the memory of the event will change as age alters perspectives.
  • Unique may be the way to go – It is entirely possible to mix and match generic party favours with unique items. For example, every guest could get a, b, c, and d, but only the Best Man gets J and all the bridesmaids get Q, etc…
  • Consider the guests, especially the special ones – If this is probably granny’s last wedding then make sure to pick something that she would consider appropriate or give her something unique! If you have many younger members in attendance, remember to give things that their parents do not need to explain or dread on the trip home.
  • Consider the venue.  Are you planning a destination wedding? The theme of your favors could very well match your destination, such as a seashell theme for a beach wedding and so on.
